Basic Polar Training – Svalbard March 2017

After an incredible night of watching the Northern Lights, we settled down for a good nights sleep. We were up early and set out for an early morning ski by 7:15am. Breakfast had us re-energised and ready for the lesson about polar bear awareness. As the only land based animal that actively hunts human beings, we were all fascinated about these beautiful creatures. The afternoon was a practical session about how to put up the tent. It was -12’C outside so the conditions were ideal for training. We worked well together as a team and found out that having a plan to follow was very important. Clear understanding of individual roles were also key. Satisfied that we had plenty of room for improvement we packed up the equipment and headed to the pub for dinner, evening stories of past explorers and plenty of laughter.
